While I have greatly enjoyed touring around Japan seeing the ornate temples and more working with the students and teachers has been equally great. While sometimes shy at first the students are generally very enthusiastic and eager to speak English and ask about things. They are also very willing to answer my own questions about things here.

The teachers have all been great about including me in class and translating as necessary, even going so far as to encourage student presentations that can inform me about Japan and what to do while I’m here. Along with classes I’ve also been hanging out in the English Room for conversation hours with varying attendance by students. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the conversations with students learning about life here, answering questions about the U.S. and especially talking about language, learning about slang/young language here and what it is in English. I hope they’re learning at least as much from me as I’m learning working with them.
