Dear Mrs. Koizumi,

On behalf of the Courtney family I want to thank you for your hospitality on our recent trip to your country and university.

It was most gracious of you to arrange for us to meet with the Karuta Queen and to have special seats to observe the competition.

Please thank the Queen for the beautiful cards she made for each of us.

We will treasure them always.

We were honored to meet and take photographs with the Karuta elders. Based upon my observation Karuta is an excellent education exercise to unify mind and body. These promoters of Karuta should be proud that they can make society better.

We also thank you for the traditional tea ceremony. We learned a lot and benefited from this cultural experience.

This event was made most delightful by the participation of your tourist industry students.

They were most helpful in guiding us to wear our kimono’s properly.

Yuca in particular also did a wonderful job translating for us.

Please thank each of these fine women for making the crane origami’s and the individualized business cards for us.

Involving your students directly with 6 American tourists impressed me that Sagami University prepares its students well for the future. I know the students we had the good fortune to meet in particular will do very well in their careers.

If you or any of your students ever visit Washington D.C. we would be happy to host at our home and be your tour guides.

Best regards,

Dennis Courtney and Family
